Finally Threadbear!

Published by thiselfknits at 2:51 pm under LYS

Ever since I became a member at Ravelry and was told about this wonderful local yarn store in Lansing, I have been dying to visit it. We live about an hour and a half away though, so it isn’t a matter of just jumping in the car. For Father’s Day yesterday we decided to go on a road trip.

My husband and I are both alumni of Michigan State University. We have not taken our daughter up to show her around yet and the weather was supposed to be mostly beautiful. So we packed up the car with our bikes and bike trailer and off we went. This was a great chance to try out dh’s new Garmin GPS. It is pretty neat and calls out street names and destinations rather than just saying “turn right in 200 feet.” It even called out “Arriving at Threadbear” with pretty good accuracy.

We definitely would have passed the store if we had not had the GPS. There is no sign at the road and the store only has a banner inside the window. It is on Waverly south of Saginaw. For reference it is southeast of Lansing Mall.

It is in an older shopping center. To be honest, if I had not heard great things I am not sure I would have stopped. I’m so glad that we did stop though because we would have missed out.

This is an absolutely fabulous store! And huge! I can’t get over how big it is and the selection of yarn and supplies they have. They had yarn I had only heard about. For instance they had worsted weight Colinette. I have only ever seen their Jitterbug sock yarn. If they would have had it in Popsicle I would have found that hard to resist.

The store had all of these nice little seating areas. And the Yarn! Oh it just went on and on. Malabrigo, Cascade, Lorna’s Laces, Dream in Color, Blue Sky Alpacas, and so much more. Their sock yarn selection alone was so much to take in. The Knitting Scotsman talked me into buying some Lorna’s Laces in the MSU colorway. It is nice and soft. It does contain 20% nylon, which I usually don’t go for but I am willing to try it out. Go STATE!

The Scotsman ended up getting three skeins of Lamb’s Pride to make a Jayne hat. 10 points if you understand what that means ;)

Seriously this store just rocks. My daughter’s highlight was getting to meet the dogs, Tate and Busby. I just absolutely love stores that have dogs at them. Totally makes my day cause I know that I have met a fellow dog person that considers them to be a part of their family. Anyway I loved the store, loved the owner and employees, loved the dogs, and just loved the yarn. I highly recommend this store if you live in the area or are just traveling through Lansing.
