Inish Knits
This yarn store was a bit out of the way for us, but we decided to check it out because we were relatively close after having lunch in Glen Arbor. Inish Knits is located at 9031 S. Kasson St. in Cedar, MI. It is a very small town with a tiny IGA, ice cream store, a bar/restaurant, and a few other shops.
The store is beautiful, in an older building with pretty wood shelves holding all of the yarn. There are wood plank floors that creak under your feet. We were greeted right when we walked in, even though the register is in the back of the store. It is a very open space.
They carried Claudia Handpainted, Cascade, Debbie Bliss, and Elsebeth Lavold to name a few. They had quite a few pattern books and pattern sheets too. Plus they have some handspun and spinning supplies. The handspun was all beautiful, but I didn’t end up buying any. I haven’t jumped off that bridge yet. I really think you need a special purpose for handspun.
Oh and I have a PSA for LYS owners. If a family of three comes into your store with a beautiful 3-year-old curious about where you keep the cashmere and/or silk yarn, a striking red-haired man, and a lady with a crazy sock-yarn addiction, take note. The man is a knitter. Repeat the man is a knitter. If you pay attention to him he will probably impress you with his skill and knowledge and he will buy something. Probably a lot of something. He is in the market for bulky wool yarn for a sweater. He did see something that he liked at Inish Knits, but he was ignored so no purchase.
The clerk did ask me a few times if I needed any help and she was very friendly. The store was nice and the selection was good. I’m not sure we would ever make the drive back up there to visit though.
