Lost Art Yarn Shoppe
Lost Art Yarn Shoppe is located in the heart of historic downtown Traverse City. There appears to be a mix of restaurants, cafés, and shops. We visited on a Thursday afternoon and it appeared to be quite the bustling area. The store is in the middle of the block. There is convenient meter parking behind the store, but I don’t believe that the store had a public door off the back. The meters were kind of neat as they gave you a free 30 minutes by pushing a button.
It is not a huge store, but they do have floor to eye-level shelves full of yarn in the front of the store. The back of the store was devoted to notions, needles, embroidery supplies, and materials for rugs. The owner of the store was assisting another customer when we came in. I really cannot recall if we were greeted or not. Once that customer left, we received her full attention.
It was here that I first set eyes on the wonder that is hand painted Malabrigo. My husband ended up picking out two skeins that caught his and Gwen’s eye. She had convinced him he could make her a hat and mittens with them.
Traverse City is also behing a reusable shopping bag program. For $1 you get a very nice cloth bag with the city’s name and website on it. We always keep ecobags in the back of my car but forgot to grab one before going to the store. So we purchased one to tote the Malabrigo in.
The owner was wonderful to chat with. She gave us tips on what to see while we were in town. We talked a bit about her native Germany and of course about yarn.
I would definitely recommend this store and shop there again. Plus there is so much else to do right in the area. You are just a short walk from the beach and a miniature train.
