April 2009 Woolgirl Sock Club Arrived

Published by thiselfknits at 9:00 pm under Yarn

Thanks to the handy dandy magnet calendar with the Woolgirl Sock Club 2009 shipping dates on it, I knew to expect my shipment sometime this week. Happily it was on my front porch when we got home from my daughter’s swim class today. As soon as I opened it I knew I was going to have to fight my husband for it :)

This month’s theme is Kinsale, Ireland. Jen of Woolgirl considers it her home away from home. The yarn is dyed to match the water around the Old Head of Kinsale and shares the same name. It is from Curious Creek Fibers and is absolutely stunning. My husband loves these subtle solids, so hopefully I’ll be able to get another skein just for him.

This kit came with two patterns, just like the last one. It has a sock pattern entitled The Crooked Brook and designed by Anne Hanson. Twisted stitches and eyelets create a zig zag pattern over the foot and leg. There is also a double strand cowl pattern by Lisa Dykstra that is knit in the round.

As usual the extras are fabulous and what make this sock club stand out. The biggest item is the knitting tote with “Woolgirl Sock Club 2009″ embroidered on the front. This tote has a ton of great pockets and compartments for all of my knitting tools. Jen said she drank a lot of tea while in Kinsale, so she also included a few tea related goodies. There is a teapot stitch marker from Sunneshine Stitch Markers, a teapot tape measure, a teapot notepad from Kimberly Shaw Graphics, and a Scottish Breakfast teabag. There was a sheep shaped cookie from Cranberry Sweets, but sad to say it didn’t last long after opening the box. It was enjoyed by my daughter, husband and me pretty quickly. Also included was a notecard from the very talented Willa Landino, as in the last shipment as well. Finally the little suitcase with a Bon Voyage tag on it contained two cute little sheep.

As soon as I finish up some farm squares, then I am definitely casting on some socks. Have a lot to catch up to and I can’t wait to do so. Sorry for the dark color of some of the pictures. It is finally getting nice outside and I was having a hard time finding just the right lighting.
